In 2012, the association Nager IT e.V. launched the first Fair IT device: the Fair Computer Mouse. Since then, the team has been spreading the idea of fair IT production with a lot of energy and passion. To this day, it is the only computer mouse with a Blue Angel and a transparent supply chain. The current team of the association sees its strengths in setting up such a project, but not in sales. Therefore, the association would like to put the project in other, more communicative hands.

In addition to educational work, Fair IT yourself e.V. works through cooperation with and advice to manufacturers to create concrete alternatives to the conventional exploitative production of electronic devices in order to sustainably improve the economic, social and ecological conditions in the producing countries.

The association Fair IT yourself e.V. now wants to offer the Fair Mouse a new home. A wide variety of people have come together who are enthusiastic about maintaining sales and further developing the Fair Mouse.

Our mouse stands for transparency instead of greenwashing, for humane working conditions instead of exploitation, for repair instead of throwing away and for technology that belongs to everyone. Become part of the movement and show: Fair IT is possible – even in the long term.

We are expanding FIY e. V., taking over the material of the Fair Mouse and realigning sales and public relations. We are also cooperating with NUNC eG. At the same time, we are working with the community to further develop the mouse and are thinking about other products. Join us! Together we will give the Fair Mouse a stable home and make fair IT a successful model thanks to educational work.

Update 21.11.2025: With Max and Daniel, two association members and sympathizers of Fair IT yourself e. V. have now taken over the material of the mouse so that we can continue quickly and very few people experience a gap in the availability of the Fair Mouse. At the same time, both are working with us on the long-term solution that we as an association can take over the further development and production of the Fair Mouse.

With your purchase you are setting an example: technology can be fair, repairable and durable. Our mouse uses fairer procured materials, is screwed instead of glued and follows an open, documented design. This allows you to change, repair and further develop it – instead of throwing it away. With the mouse you get a robust tool for everyday life – and support a community that shares knowledge. Order your mouse and make your desk and the world a better place. Together we are shifting the market bit by bit.

You want to help, but don’t need a mouse? Your donation helps us to further develop the Fair Mouse and then produce it. The most effective are regular contributions by bank transfer or SEPA direct debit – this allows us to plan reliably. Every euro strengthens repairability, durability and our open design. This is how easy it is to make Fair IT a reality. Thank you for bringing fairness to electronics.

The most cost-effective, sustainable and effective way is a standing order from your bank account to our donation account:

The aim of the association is to use educational work to win people over to responsible electronics consumption and thus achieve an improvement in the situation in the producing countries. The entire supply chain is considered – from raw material extraction and processing (for example, cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo) to the production of preliminary components (e.g. India) and assembly (e.g. Vietnam) to disposal (e.g. electronic waste dumps in Ghana).

In addition, Fair IT yourself e.V. works through cooperation with and advice to manufacturers to create concrete alternatives to the conventional exploitative production of electronic devices in order to sustainably improve the economic, social and ecological conditions in the producing countries.

The practical work gained in this way in turn flows into our educational work.

By continuing the Fair Mouse, we can concretely show: Fair IT is possible.

Our Vision

Our vision is a technology world in which computers and peripherals are no longer created at the expense of people and the environment, but fairness, transparency and sustainability become the new industry standard. We dream of a society in which consumers confidently reach for products that guarantee social justice, minimize environmental impact and conserve resources – and in which tech corporations take responsibility instead of ignoring it.

In order to make this vision a reality, Fair IT yourself relies on a triad of product innovation, transparency and activism in addition to educational work.

With this mission, we not only want to offer a “Fair Mouse”, but also trigger a movement boost through the combination of the Fair Mouse and our educational work, which will make the entire electronics industry rethink.

Get Involved

We are a participatory movement – join us! Volunteer to help with community support, educational work, translation, design or workshops. Whether on site or remotely, two hours a month or an entire project: Your skills count. We work openly, learn from each other and share results – in the spirit of the open source idea. Get in touch, tell us what you like to do and we will find a task that has an impact and is fun or help directly in Codeberg.

We are looking for dedicated helpers who can help us spread Fair Computer Mice with contacts, partnerships or financial support. Register now – we will get in touch to open the door together!

Our Future Plan

In October, we as Fair IT yourself e. V. (FIY e. V.) set the course so that the Fair Mouse gets a stable home. We are expanding FIY e. V., taking over the material of the Fair Mouse and realigning sales and public relations. We will stem the start-up costs together: Your orders will reduce the need; we will secure the remaining amount through donations and private loans. With NUNC eG, we are concretizing the cooperation in accounting and organization in order to work professionally and transparently. And of course we are developing the mouse further – together with you, with a continued focus on repairability, transparency and fair materials. Join us: Order a mouse, get active, donate or support us with a loan.

Together we will give the Fair Mouse a stable home and make fair IT a successful model thanks to educational work.

Our educational work

Interactive Workshops

Through participatory methods, students understand global contexts, conflicts of interest and the influence of our consumer behavior on production conditions.

  • Number of participants: 10-30 students
  • Duration: from 90 minutes, a whole project day is also possible

Soldering workshops

In our soldering workshops, participants solder a Fair Computer Mouse from Nager IT themselves from a kit and thus gain an insight into the working world of the producers.

  • Number of participants: 10-20 participants
  • Duration: from 4 hours
  • from the 7th grade

Training courses

In our training courses, we impart background knowledge on electronics production and present our interactive workshop concept on the topic of Fair Electronics.

  • Number of participants: 10-20 participants
  • Duration: from 3 hours

Materials

Our educational work is supported by the German Federal Environment Agency and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection. The funds are provided on the basis of a resolution passed by the German Bundestag.

Mehr Informationen findest du auch auf Codeberg. Ansonsten frag uns gerne per E-Mail bzw. Mastodon an.

Of course it is possible to produce fairly, you just have to respect human rights. This is possible with chocolate, coffee, clothes, footballs and also with technology. However, it is much more difficult for us as a small manufacturer to convince suppliers of this principle than it would be for a large company like Apple. They could already make corresponding specifications and would have quite fair products in a very short time.

We ourselves always keep the goal of a completely exploitation-free mouse in mind. So far, we have achieved that the assembly as well as the soldering work are carried out completely fairly. The same applies to approx. 2/3 of the components. We source a lot from regional production and are working to use more recycled metals. We are in good communication with some of our Chinese suppliers. We are taking the arduous path of communication at eye level. This lengthens the process immensely, but promises more stable success.

A completely fair production would certainly be achieved more quickly if there were more fair producers who demand all fair components and raw materials, e.g. fair cables, fair tin etc. In addition, it is of course necessary that the demand (from customers) for fair IT devices would increase a little more. This would motivate new players and give existing producers more market weight.

We as the takeover team of Fair IT yourself e. V. take criticism from disabled people regarding integration workshops very seriously. We are currently fully occupied with the takeover of the company. As soon as we have managed the takeover and a stable operation is possible, we will take care of improving the production conditions.

Feel free to get active to help us improve the supply chain faster.

We ensure that the mouse is produced under fair working conditions, which protects the rights of workers and contributes to safer working environments (Goal 8.8).

Through the production of the Fair Mouse, which is manufactured under ethical considerations, we support the creation of fair, productive jobs and promote awareness of social issues (Goal 8.3).

We promote sustainable industrialization by offering a product with the fair computer mouse that is manufactured under fair working conditions. This contributes to the creation of jobs in the industry and supports responsible production (Goal 9.2).

We promote economic inclusion by creating fair working conditions for the people who manufacture the computer mouse. By supporting cooperatives and local manufacturers, we ensure that all participants are paid fairly and have a say (Goal 10.2).

By manufacturing the fair computer mouse, discriminatory practices in production are avoided. We ensure that all workers have the same opportunities and rights regardless of gender, origin or social status (Goal 10.3).

By promoting the fair computer mouse, we aim to reduce waste production by offering durable and repairable products. This supports the idea of reuse and recycling (Goal 12.5).

We inform the public about the benefits of the fair computer mouse, thereby promoting awareness of sustainable development (Goal 12.8).

In times of increasing cyberattacks and ever more sophisticated hardware manipulations, even supposedly ‘harmless’ accessories such as mice are becoming the focus of security audits in large companies. The fair computer mouse sets new standards here, combining the strictest security requirements with the greatest possible transparency.

  • Open-Source Hardware: All electronic circuit diagrams of the fair computer mouse are publicly available. This gives IT security managers the opportunity to inspect circuits themselves or have them validated by external auditors.
  • Full Disassembly and Inspection Capability: Every structural component of the mouse can be disassembled non-destructively. This complete unscrewability ensures that only approved components are installed. You can check at any time according to customer and company guidelines whether there are any defective hardware modifications or manipulated components.
  • Supply Chain Security: In many large IT infrastructures, control of the supply chain is essential. Transparent logistics processes and verifiable origin of the components minimize the risk of compromised goods entering your network.

For IT security managers of large companies, the fair mouse offers a unique combination of complete transparency, auditability, and supply chain security. By relying on open standards, you reduce risks and strengthen your defense strategy at the hardware level.

See for yourself the security of the fair mouse.
