Fair IT lives on: Warehouse handover secures the future of the Fair Mouse
The warehouse handover marks a new beginning for the Fair Computer Mouse
Gifhorn, February 2026 – A strong signal at the turn of the year: On Friday, 2026-01-30, Nager IT e.V. officially transferred the complete inventory of the Fair Computer Mouse to a new collective ownership model. The handover marks the central milestone of a change in operators that secures a stable future for the Fair Mouse. The message at the start of 2026 is clear: Fair IT lives on.
After months of uncertainty, the path is now clear for a transition to an innovative community model. From now on, the Fair Mouse will be supported by a collaboration between the newly founded fairIT Vermarktung GbR—acting as a bridge company, commercial distribution partner, and investor—and the non-profit Fair IT yourself e.V. as the conceptual, developmental, and education-oriented point of contact.
A transition that shares responsibility
With the warehouse handover, the specially founded fairIT Vermarktung GbR initially assumes entrepreneurial responsibility for the sale of existing stock via the Fair Mouse Marketplace. It bears the economic risks of the transition phase. Other members of the alliance are already securing part of the investments made through a financing commitment. At the same time, Fair IT yourself e.V. is driving the further development of the Fair Mouse, new product ideas, and educational and community work surrounding fair IT. The involvement of the open-source community is explicitly part of the concept. In the future, this collaboration is to be transferred into a joint non-profit limited liability company (gGmbH), which is currently being established.
From a pioneering achievement to a collective effort
The Fair Computer Mouse was launched in 2012 by Nager IT e.V. as the first fair IT device. Since then, it has stood for transparency instead of greenwashing, humane working conditions instead of exploitation, and repairability instead of disposable electronics. Since 2024, it has been the world’s first PC mouse to bear the Blue Angel ecolabel.
Nager IT e.V. set benchmarks with the Fair Mouse—but now sees its core competence in education and networking rather than ongoing sales. With the completed handover, this responsibility is deliberately placed in new, communicative, and collectively organized hands.
A happy new year for fair IT
The warehouse handover at the turn of the year is more than a logistical act: it is a symbolic baton for a movement that continues to grow. Fair IT yourself e.V. provides a new home for the Fair Mouse and invites individuals, initiatives, and organizations to become part of this development—whether through collaboration, orders, partnerships, or supporting educational work.
2026 thus marks the beginning of a new chapter for fair IT: driven by cooperation, transparency, and the common goal of establishing fair electronics as a long-term social standard.
